4 years ago I posted a blog noting that mold inspectors were not regulated in California.
Just got a comment from that blog that it was not completely true. I wish that was the case then and now; sadly that is not the case.
Due to consumer complaints, it appears that regulation and licensing of both mold inspectors and mold remediatiors is on the way.
In California, anyone can call themselves a mold inspector, and there are still several bogus certifications that “inspectors” can obtain by attending a short class, that promotes mold testing (which is often unneeded) as a way to generate income; rather than helping consumers.
The only recognized mold inspection certification is issued by ACAC.org; which the overwhelming majority of mold inspectors in California still do not have; nor have they even heard of it.
I recommend that before you hire a mold inspector or remediator that you visit ACAC.org to develop a list of potential candidates for your project.
Be careful out there, licensing is still about 1 to 2 years away in California.
